Survey report about the role of deaf consumers in deaf-led businesses

As part of our EU-funded project Deaf Journalism Europe (DJE), we conducted research into how to make our national sign language news services more sustainable. Surveys were distributed across six countries, and the results were documented in a report (Deliverable 4.1), followed by a marketing plan specifically targeted at deaf audiences (Deliverable 4.2), business models for deaf news and media organisations (Deliverable 4.3), and policy recommendations for governments (Deliverable 4.4).

The research was carried out under the direction of Jorn Rijckaert (Visual Box) and is based on responses from 877 participants in Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovakia, and Sweden. The first deliverable containing the survey results offers valuable insights into news consumption habits and the willingness to pay for sign language news services.

Watch the interview with Jorn Rijckaert here, in which he provides a summary of the first deliverable in International Sign.
