The last newsletter of DJE

 Introduction

After two years, the DJE project has come to its end. Together, the partners Teckenbro, Médiapi, manua, DeafStudio, Visual Box and Turquoise conclude a fantastic period.

For two years, the partners delivered news in their own countries, but also in a European context, made accessible in the national sign languages or International Sign.

Most partners would like to join together for another two-year period. For this, there is a new application for funding from the European Union’s Creative Europe. It will become clear in August/September whether our application will be granted. If so, DJE-2 can start from November. Are you keeping your fingers crossed for us?

Looking back

Together, we have created about 20 transnational articles over the past 2 years.

In June 2024, we provided an informative livestream in Brussels on the European Elections that took place that year. In the same month, we gave a seminar on journalism for anyone interested in it.

In July 2024, we provided video reports every day at the Clin D’Oeil festival in Reims.

Our articles and video reports can be found on our website: www.deafjournalism.eu.

Last meeting in Paris

For the last time in DJE-1, the partners met in Paris from Thursday 27 March to Sunday 30 March. There were first 2 days of meetings on the past two years and with a hopeful look ahead to DJE-2.

This was followed on Saturday 29 March by a symposium on media organised by Médiapi with a very interesting lecture by Stephanie Linder from Australia and a panel discussion. Linder’s lecture was about delivering news in different ways and which one is most preferred by the deaf community.

On Sunday morning, 30 March, EDMA’s board was elected.

The European Deaf Media Association (EDMA) was formed to represent the interests of deaf media makers and organisations in Europe. The association is committed to improving working conditions, supporting professional development, and promoting equal access to information in national sign languages. EDMA also encourages the emergence of new generations of deaf media professionals and provides a central database of resources and media for its members.
